How Do You Perceive Luck?  Now that must be the million dollar question!  I posted this title as a Draft and I noticed it had 40 views.  The title was all I posted to remind myself that  I wanted to do a post at some later date.  Obviously it struck a chord with some people. 

Do you perceive Luck in terms of how much "MONEY" you have?  As the third child of four children, I've always thought that I had to fight extra hard to be noticed.  Born on Friday the Thirteenth was just the icing on the cake for me!  Yikes!  How could I ever stand a chance with those odds?

Do you see other people with bigger houses, cars or more stuff as Lucky?  Did you ever know someone who always seemed to have the best of everything?   Or maybe someone who was always noticed more than you.  What did they do that was so special?  My Mother always said that there will always be someone with more than you.

In a market where people are finding Real Estate to be more tumultuous than it had been in previous years, there are definitely some imbalances.  There are those less fortunate that are very possibly losing their homes due to defaults on mortgages.  Then there are those who are still making a killing on the market winning full price offers on their homes. 

When working with Buyers and Sellers, it's often said that if you're a Buyer and you lose a house to someone else, a better house will come along.  If you're a Seller and your Buyer backs out, well the next offer will most certainly be a better one!

I consider myself to be a Lucky person because I found my husband, Bob, twenty years after High School and we knew each other in High School.  Now that was Luck if I ever saw it!  We are also Lucky because we went into business together and we love working with each other.   How Lucky can you get?

Pascack Valley High School NJ - Hats off to Thee!  That was the song we sang at the games we attended back in the 70's.  Back then when we attended this great High School things looked alittle bit different then they do today but the spirit still lives on.  Renovations of the High School were in the works when I (Lisa) was graduating.  The community was growing and the school needed more room to accomodate the children of Hillsdale & River Vale.  In keeping with the newest growth spurts, the school has recently undergone a new face lift. 

We took a peek at the grounds recently and the memories came flooding back to the times we both spent attending High School.  Below you will find the before and after photos we took.

The High School Field was seemingly larger than either of us remembered.  As we stood and gazed at the field it was as if we'd never left.  The Pascack Valley Indians were on our minds that day as I remembered back to the games against the Pascack Hills Cowboys.  The old song was replaying in my mind:  Pascack Valley Hats off to thee - to our colors true we will always be - Hats off to Pascack High!  Fight!!!

In our time, the Pascack Valley Select & Madrigal Choirs was how I spent my extra time while Bob ran Track.  Simpler times but the Pascack Valley area is still as popular now as it was then.   The Pascack Valley has some of the very best Public Schools around.

Don't Forget to Check on The Elderly!  As the dogs days of Summer have pushed New Jersey temperatures up to very uncomfortable levels here in the Pascack Valley, you may want to consider these Tips.  With temperatures climbing, the heat of the Summer has given me a personal experience with my elderly Mother which prompted me to write this post. 

With the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, we can sometimes forget that our elderly don't tolerate simple facts of life such as "HEAT"!  We all run in and out of air conditioned offices, homes and cars and pay little attention to the temperatures outside. 

If you know of an elderly homeowner, neighbor or relative, take a moment to call or stop in on them.  Many of the elderly don't think of the outside temperatures and can become dehydrated.  Take a moment and check on the following points:

• If there is air conditioning available, make sure it's on or turn on a Fan.
• Give them water and make sure that they drink it.
• If they are on medications, check to make sure that their meds don't have warning labels like avoiding direct sunlight.
• Make sure they are dressed in lightweight clothing.
• If there is a Dehumidifier in use, check it and empty it daily.  These containers can be too heavy for the elderly to manage.
• Electricy outages are common when the temperatures soar so check to be sure that the elderly still have electricity.
• If electricity is out you may take your elderly to malls or restaurants where they can cool off.
• Flashlights on bedstands are important in the event they must get up in the dark.

Is Time on your side?  How much time is enough time?  Do you ever feel like there aren't enough hours in a day or enough time to spend with the ones you love?  This weekend brought these questions to the forfront in my life and I experienced a "sudden shift in priorities".  My Mother who is almost 80 years old and a very active woman, working two part time jobs, became ill at 7:00 am Friday morning.  I was forced to drop everything I was doing and rush to her house to help her.  It was scarey sitting by her bedside with the weight of the world on my shoulders wondering what the right decision was to make at that moment.

I am the third child of four children and my siblings all live in other states.  My father passed away almost 9 years ago so I bare the weight of the responsibility to look after my Mother.  I don't see it as a burden because I love my Mother dearly and take pleasure in her company.  She doesn't live too far from me so it's a short car ride to her home.  She's pretty self sufficient but has High Blood Pressure and Arthritis so she does need to have someone near by in the event of emergencies or to help her maintain her house. 

As Full Time Realtors® we're usually all over the place and this year has been pretty challenging.  Stopping everything to rush to my Mother's side was a real "AH HA!" moment.  Here is how my day went:

• First, I had to call my Mother's Physician who was on vacation so I had to take her to a covering Doctor
• After a very long wait, we saw the Physician which took about an hour since he wasn't familiar with her history
• After sending us home, later that day, the Doctor decided that it might be better for her to go to the Emergency Room.  After five hours in emergency, the Doctor decided to admit her into the Hospital.
• At 12:30 am Saturday morning we finally got her settled into the Pascack Valley Hospital.
• The entire next day was spent sitting bedside while we tried to understand what to do next.

The good news is that she was released!  Now comes the follow up and trying to find out what caused her Blood Pressure to spike to almost 235 over 90.  I'm greatful that I still have time with my Mother and I will take full advantage of it.  Since we are a Husband and Wife Team, my husband, Bob can pick up the slack and tend to our customers and listings while I tend to my Mom. 

Last week I was consumed with Business but it was only because I thought that was a priority and that time was on my side for the other stuff in life.  This week my priorities are much different.  You just never know when you will have a sudden shift in priorities.   Is Time on Your Side?   Take a moment today to figure out what is important in your life and make time for it!
